Ratings Guide   Best Better Good FairPoor

GE PDW1860NSS

Dishwasher Pros and Cons Summary
Cleaning GOOD - Uses a high-temperature wash cycle to help get your dishes clean. Hot water is the one of the primary keys to breaking-down grease and cleaning dishes. Does not include a sanitizing option that is now available on most new dishwashers.
Cycles GOOD - Cycles and options are about average for a newly manufactured dishwasher. The more cycles and options you have to choose from, the better the chance of getting your family's particular dishes clean, and making your life a little more convenient.
Energy FAIR - Energy Guide estimated annual electricity use is 13% higher than the average new dishwasher. Ranks in the lower 5% of new dishwashers for FAIR power conservation. This GE model is one of the few new dishwashers not Energy Star qualified.
Water POOR - Annual water use is 36% higher than average according to Energy Star estimates. Ranks in the lower 1% of new dishwashers for POOR water conservation. Uses about 258 gallons more water annually than the average new dishwasher.
Sound POOR - Louder than average. Operating sound levels of 60 dBA are 10.1 dBA higher than the average new dishwasher. Ranks in the lower 10% of louder dishwashers for POOR noise suppression. A 10 dBA increase in sound is like being 50% closer to the dishwasher.
Cost GOOD - Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price is about average for a currently produced dishwasher. Rated GOOD for affordability. The GE PDW1860NSS dishwasher should generally be available on-sale at 10%-20% below the MSRP.

Performance Ratings
Spray
Jets
Silverware and Dish Jets - The GE PDW1860NSS includes multiple high-pressure spray jets that can scrub heavily soiled pans, dishes, and silverware. Jets are positioned in several areas to help loosen and remove baked-on food.
High
Temp
High-Temp Wash Option - Includes the option to select a high-temperature wash cycle. Really hot water combined with the right detergent and softened water can help loosen dried-on, baked-on food deposits and produce clean dishes.
Steam No Steam Option - Like most new dishwashers, this GE model does not have the capability to generate steam. High-temperature water vapor can be an effective means of loosening tough food deposits from silverware and dishes.
Wash
Levels
4 Wash Levels - Below average number of wash levels. Multiple wash levels allow water to cover dishes from different angles and directions inside the dishwasher. Less wash levels generally means less thorough cleaning.
Sensor
Washing
Sensor Washing - Uses one or more sensors to measure soil content, load level, and/or water temperature. The GE PDW1860NSS sensors automatically make wash-cycle adjustments to help ensure optimum cleaning with user intervention.
Sanitize No Sanitize - This dishwasher does not have a cycle or rinse that is certified by the NSF to reduce 99.9% of bacteria. With most homes having a germier kitchen than bathroom, sanitize is available on over 85% of new dishwashers.
Food
Disposer
Built-In Food Disposer - Includes a built-in food disposer that helps keep the wash water clean and free of debris. Minimizes the number of food particles that can deposit on dishes. Saves water, no need to pre-rinse dishes.
Water
Softener
No Water Softener - Does not have a built-in water softener that can condition the water and remove minerals and impurities. Most homes with hard water have a whole-house softener so integrated models are only available on a few dishwashers.

Convenience Ratings
No. of
Racks
3 Racks - The GE PDW1860NSS has a 3rd rack that provides more loading space and flexibility compared to the standard 2-rack dishwasher. Especially useful when you have a large load and need to wash flatware or small cups that can fit in the 3rd rack.
Spray
Arms
Spray Arms - Uses a superior rotating spray arm design instead of a central tower located in the middle of the bottom rack. Spray arms deliver water to more interior areas and angles. Doesn't waste rack space or limit loading flexibility.
Adjustable
Racks
Adjustable - One or more of the racks can be adjusted to move up, down, and/or tilt. Adjustable racks allow you to create additional room to fit in larger pots, pans, or irregular items. Provides flexibility for clean-up after parties.
Removable
Racks
Not Removable - None of the loading racks can be completely removed from the dishwasher. Removable racks are only found on about 30% of new dishwashers and provide flexibility for special occasions when you need to wash extra large cookware.
Place
Settings
12 Settings - Number of place settings is about average for a new dishwasher. Higher capacity allows you to run the dishwasher less often, which saves both time and money. Families generally need a dishwasher with 12-16 place settings.
Fold-Down
Tines
Fold-Down Tines - Some of the divider tines positioned vertically in the rack can be folded down. Helps secure items, and provides greater flexibility with making space for larger cookware that won't fit in-between or above the tines.
Concealed
Element
No Concealed Element - Like most new dishwashers available today, this GE model does not have a heating element that is concealed or recessed to help prevent accidental contact and melting of dishes or utensils in the lower rack.
Controls All-Digital Integrated Controls - Touch-pad, all-digital control console is fully integrated (hidden) on the top edge of the door for a clean, seamless look from the front. About 50% of new dishwashers are fully integrated. Personal choice.
Display Digital Display - The GE PDW1860NSS control console includes a LED digital display that shows wash-cycle time remaining. Helps you monitor wash cycle progress while doing other activities so you can schedule your time accordingly.

Efficiency Ratings
Energy
Star
No Energy Star - The GE PDW1860NSS is not Energy Star qualified according to the latest criteria. It uses more electricity and water than most new dishwashers and will be more costly to operate. Only about 10% of new dishwashers are not Energy Star.
Energy
Rating
305 kWh - Energy Guide estimated annual electricity use is 13% higher than the average new dishwasher. Ranks in the lower 5% of new dishwashers for FAIR power conservation. This GE model is one of the few new dishwashers not Energy Star qualified.
Water
Rating
989 Gal - Annual water use is 36% higher than average according to Energy Star estimates. Ranks in the lower 1% of new dishwashers for POOR water conservation. Uses about 258 gallons more water annually than the average new dishwasher.
Energy Save
Quick Wash
Energy-Save / Quick-Wash Cycle - The GE PDW1860NSS allows you to select a quick-wash or energy-save cycle that uses lower temperatures, less water, and/or shorter wash time for lightly-soiled dishes. Helps save water, energy, and money.
Half
Load
Half-Load Option - You can save water and energy by washing a smaller load of dishes in just one of the loading racks. Can save money and help the environment when you need the dishes washed but don't have enough for a full load.
Delay
Start
Delay Start Option - The dishwasher can be programmed to run at a later time during off-peak energy hours when electric utility rates are often substantially less. Also convenient to operate the dishwasher while the family isn't home.
CEE
Tier 1
No CEE Tier 1 - This dishwasher model is not qualified CEE Tier 1 by the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE). If a dishwasher is not Energy Star qualified, it will also not qualify for the CEE Tier 1 efficiency rating.
